One of Obama's goals is to make nice with the world so they'll respect us more, or words to that effect. Like that ever works, on the playground or at the U.N. (not that there's that much difference).

I say, I don't want to convince the rest of the world to respect us, I want the rest of the world to grow the fuck up and start showing us the respect that we've fucking well earned.

This is pretty laughably hypocritical. We can brand other nations as "evil" during the State of the Union, starve nations, blow the shit out of nations, all because we don't like their leadership... But some dude writes a newpaper column and, oh, that's one step too far.

As you've pointed out in the past, we're basically a hegemon. The price we pay for that privilege is that those within our domain of influence might dare express an opinion about what we do with it.
